Frequently Asked Questions on Child & Family Portrait Shoots

Please feel free to ask if you can't find the answer

How would you describe your photography style?

I work to keep my children and family portraits very natural, capturing photos of the action as it happens. It's lots of fun and not too much posing, bringing out the true character of your family. This also makes the sessions more enjoyable.

What time do the sessions take place?
The ideal start time is in the morning, as early as possible, as this gives us time to adjust for any of family life's mishaps or dramas. If the shoot is on location then it depends on access times, how busy it gets and what the weather is doing. If mornings don't work for you I'm happy to find a time that suits your family.

Where does the photo session take place?
The event sessions take place in a single location - either in your family home or on location. The deluxe  and supreme sessions can be in a variety of locations – maybe starting at your home and then moving on to a place that means a lot to you as a family. Both rural and urban locations can work really well. Because of time restraints the locations have to be close by.

What happens if it rains?
We can still get a fantastic variety of photos in your home and kids in rain coats and wellies, jumping in puddles, are very cute! If the weather really is too much then we can reschedule. Baking a cake, playing dress up or a board game is sometimes all that is needed to save a rainy day shoot.

Do you take any traditional posed shots?
Yes, I will take time on some candid portraits of your child/children or you together as a family. But I generally spend time letting the action happen naturally and capturing the moments as they unfold.

Do you photograph in colour or black & white?
I will take photos in both colour and black and white. If you only want one or the other then that is fine.

How do I view the photos after the session?
Two weeks after the shoot your fully edited images will be available for viewing in a private gallery online. You will also be given some options for prints options.

How quickly do we have to choose what to purchase?
Before we even take a shoot you will have an idea of what you want printed. Some like phonebooks, some like a pack of photos. Once I send the link to the online gallery you will have 7 days, giving you plenty of time to decide which products you'd like to purchase. Nothing will be deleted but after this time your initial £50.00 is no longer valid towards your purchases.

What happens if my child is ill?
I am happy to reschedule, I just ask that you let me know as soon as possible.

Should we bring anything to the session?
This will be organised before we start the session. For example, if your child loves kite flying then that's a really great activity to capture their wonderment.

Snacks are also a good idea to boost your child's energy levels.

What should we all wear?
Exactly what you like – you all want to look and feel like yourselves. Simple, non-patterned clothes tend to be best, and avoiding clashes with each other would be great too. Layering works really well for creating different looks and a change of outfit can be a good idea. Hats can be a great accessory too.

Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have both public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

How do I book a session with you?
Just get in contact and we'll find a suitable date. All I need then is a signed contract and the session fee paid in full. This payment is non-refundable but can be used against a rescheduled appointment.
